MY BACKGROUND I am Br. Peter Njenga, an educator and member of the Congregation of Christian Brothers, with a strong commitment to education, child development, youth empowerment, safeguarding, faith formation and community service. I hold a Diploma in Early Childhood Education and I am currently pursuing a Bachelor of Education in Early Childhood Development at Mount Kenya University. My professional journey has centred on creating supportive and transformative learning environments for children and young people. At Edmund Rice Catholic Education Centre (ERCEC), I have served in various educational and leadership capacities, including teaching, school administration, primary-school coordination, School Mass coordination and pastoral leadership. These responsibilities have enabled me to work closely with learners, teachers, parents and the wider community. Beyond the classroom, I participate in initiatives promoting the Edmund Rice charism, environmental responsibility, child protection, social transformation and community development. I also serve in communication and coordination roles within Edmund Rice-related networks, where I contribute to strengthening collaboration, formation and service among young people, educators and community members. MY ACHIEVEMENTS Some of my key achievements include: - Contributing to the education and holistic development of children through teaching, coordination and school leadership. - Supporting the implementation of child-centred and values-based education within the school community. - Taking an active role in safeguarding and child-protection initiatives. - Coordinating and supporting school liturgical, pastoral and faith-formation activities. - Contributing to environmental initiatives through the Laudato Si' movement and the Season of Creation. - Supporting capacity-building activities within the Edmund Rice Network, particularly in leadership, community organisation and collaboration. - Participating in initiatives that bring together education, faith, service and social transformation. - Continuing my professional development by pursuing a Bachelor of Education in Early Childhood Development while actively serving in education and community ministry. - Using my leadership and communication skills to mobilise teachers, learners and community members around activities that promote service, inclusion and human dignity. WHY I AM APPLYING FOR THE WEZESHA AWARDS. I am applying for the Wezesha Awards because I believe that meaningful transformation begins when individuals are empowered to recognise their potential and use their abilities to serve others. My journey in education and community service has taught me that leadership is not simply about holding a position; it is about creating opportunities, accompanying others and making a positive difference in the lives of people. The award would provide an opportunity to have my work recognised while also exposing me to a wider network of individuals who are contributing to positive change in society. I hope to learn from others, strengthen my leadership and professional skills, and gain opportunities that will enable me to expand the impact of my work in education, child development, safeguarding, environmental responsibility and community service. Most importantly, I see the Wezesha Awards as an opportunity to inspire other educators and young people to believe in their abilities and to use their gifts for the good of their communities. I would like my journey to demonstrate that consistent service, learning, collaboration
